Description
Journals recounting his experiences at Gallipoli and France, written upon his return to Australia in 1919. Gives a vivid description of trench life, numerous attacks, shellfire, heat and cold, general slaughter on the Western Front. Attacks include Pozieres Ridge, Mouquet Farm, Ypres, Fricourt, Bapaume, Passchendaele, Bullecourt, Hindenburg Line. Gaffney was eventually wounded and returned to Australia.
