Arisaka Type 38 Rifle : Private E Kenna, 2/4 Battalion, AIF
Description
Arisaka Type 38 Rifle. This weapon is without a bolt and has received shrapnel damage. The breech top is stamped with three Japanese characters and the chrysanthemum mark. The stock is cracked through the butt and is missing part of the fore end. It is fitted with a leather sling with a brass buckle.
History / Summary
This rifle was recovered from the position "knocked out" by Pte Edward 'Ted' Kenna of 2/4 Battalion at Wewak on 15th May, 1945, an action for which he was later awarded the Victoria Cross.
