Art and War
In 1943 following his studies with British First World War artists Bernard Meninsky and William Roberts, the National Gallery of Canada gave Forster a commission to depict the Merchant Navy. From 1944 to 1946, he was an official war artist with the RCNVR. After the war, Forster painted in Montreal, Mexico, and England.
