Adele River

This honour was awarded for the patrolling actions that began the advance in Bougainville’s Southern Sector, from the Jaba River, along the coast of Empress Augusta Bay, to the Tavera River. Much of the patrolling was done through swampy marsh, and has colloquially been called the “battle of the swamps”. The honour is unique to the 15th Infantry Battalion.
