12th Brigade

The 12th Brigade was a composite "all states" brigade, made up of 45th, 46th, 47th and 48th Battalions. The brigade was formed in Egypt in February 1916 as part of the scheme to split and duplicate the AIF and drew its experienced personnel from the 4th Brigade. The 45th Battalion was made up from troops from New South Wales; the 46th Battalion from Victoria; the 47th Battalion from Queensland and Tasmania; and the 48th Battalion from South Australia and Western Australia. The brigade served with the 4th Division of the AIF.
