1918 - Patched up
Description
This image is part of a series of six cartoon style paintings that follow a man from his enlistment through to his discharge from service in the First World War. Titled 'Patched up', the painting shows the subject of the series bandaged, his arm in a sling and the other holding a cane. Despite being heavily bandaged he wears a wide grin suggesting that he is on his way to recovery and pleased to be away from the front. The 48th Battalion colour patch that had been shattered in the previous image is once again intact, aiding in the suggestion of recovery.
