The final assault on Buna. Men of D Company, 2/12th Battalion, crouch in Kunai grass as they advance to attack a Japanese pillbox, which is being shelled by an Australian tank. Note mortar firing in background. Evidence of the extensive fighting in this area is shown by damaged foliage of the coconut trees. This picture was taken during the actual fighting.
