Six local men and women were decorated for loyal service, five for their share in the Milne Bay campaign. Identified, left to right: Maiogaru (Gimuleia) Taulebona (1900 – 1986); Edward Guise, John Pilacapio; Pilimomi; Ilai Dixon and Banaba. Maiogaru, a mission trained nurse, was decorated for her part in the rescue and care of 41879 Leading Aircraftman John Francis Fitzgerald Donegan RAAF.
