New Guinea. Troops advancing along the coast from Sio, through flooded streams, just before meeting Americans moving down the coast from Saidor. The linking up of the two forces finished the grim Huon Peninsula campaign in which the great bulk of the 14,000 Japanese engaged were destroyed.
