Description
The 6670 ton Dutch Cruiser Java, which was sunk by the Japanese on 27 February 1942 during the Battle of the Java Sea while defending the Netherlands East Indies. Launched in 1925, the ship was armed with ten 5.9 inch guns. She was engaged in patrol and escort duties to protect Dutch merchant ships crossing the Pacific Ocean.
