Fortification Point, New Guinea. 1944-04-08. A sisal craft paper splinter sheet showing the piercing effect of a round against the frontal armour of a disabled Australian Matilda tank. The round had been fired from a Japanese 75mm field gun, pack type, Meiji 41 during tests by the 2/14th Field Regiment arranged by the Operational Research Section, Australian Army Ordnance Corps at Headquarters 5th Division. The weapon had been serviced by the 2/83rd Australian Light Aid Detachment and fired armour piercing, high explosive and hollow charge rounds during the tests.
