Description

On 9 August 1942 during the Battle of Savo Island in the Pacific, the Australian cruiser HMAS Canberra was sunk by Japanese naval forces with eighty three dead. Survivors were returned to Sydney aboard the American transport President Grant. Finally on shore this wounded sailor is caried on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance, watched by shipmates, friends and relatives.
