Collection relating to the service of Lieutenant Frank Gerald Kellaway, MC, 22 Battalion AIF, Gallipoli, Egypt, France, Egypt, 1915-1916. Collection consists principally of around 70 letters written by Kellaway to family members in Australia, and Kellaway's personal diary for the period August 1915 to October 1916.

History / Summary

Biographical note: Lieutenant Frank Gerald Kellaway, MC, 22 Battalion, AIF, who on 4 October 1917 was killed in action near Zonnebeke during the Battle of Broodseinde. Other biographical details are:- law student; of Northcote, VIC; born East Melbourne, VIC; educated at Wesley College, Melbourne, and Melbourne University (Queen's College); left Wesley College with high honours; won a scholarship at Queen's College and held a University exhibition; was a member of Wesley College cadets and later of the Melbourne University Rifles; enlisted in the AIF on 6 May 1915, sailed from Australia on 16 July, landed at Anzac on 4 September; wounded in the Armentieres sector shortly after arriving in France; appointed 2nd Lieutenant on 2 August 1916; won the Military Cross at Pozieres, 4-5 August; age at time of death, 22 years 9 months.
