Lingayen Gulf, Philippines. 1945-01-09. US Army troops wade ashore through the surf behind others who are moving across the beach during the Luzon campaign. In the foreground other men wait in the US Coastguard manned landing barges still on the water. During the invasion one barge became snagged on a sand bar and assault troops, struggling shoreward through deep water, encounterd difficulty with the treacherous currents.
