Description
Collection relating to the Vietnam War service of 17000 Lieutenant Colonel Colin Maurice Townsend, Commanding Officer of the 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, 1966.
Collection contains two wallets.
Wallet 1 of 2 contains an outline of Operation Smithfield as recorded in the log of Headquarters 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) that details the involvement of D Company, 6th Battalion who were later awarded the United States Presidential Citation. Collection also contains several documents relating to Operation Smithfield including a fighting patrol report dated 12 August 1966, commanding officer's orders, verbal orders, after action report dated 7 September 1966, after action report dated 2 November 1966, as well as a draft copy. Collection also consists of two maps of Nui Dat and Long Tan.
Wallet 2 of 2 contains an artillery signal log book and a note book used by Lieutenant Colonel Colin Maurice Townsend to record activity during Operation Smithfield.
