Description
Portrait of Captain T W White of the Australian Flying Corps, dressed in his disguise as a Turk, in which he escaped from Turkey during a railway collision. White stowed away on a Ukrainian steamer with Captain A J Bott of the RFC, who had also escaped from custody. They eventually reached Odessa and obtained false passports describing them as Russians and had made arrangements to join the anti-Bolshevik army, when they heard of the impending armistice with Bulgaria. They eventually stowed away in a Ukrainian hospital ship to Varna in Bulgaria where they regained touch with the Allied forces and eventually arrived at Salonica.
