Description
The Western Australian State War Memorial is situated at the peak of Mt Eliza, in King's Park, overlooking the city and the Swan River. It consists of a granite obelisk surrounded by a loggia. In the walls of the loggia are inscribed the names of those who died on active service and those who later died as the result of war injury or sickness. At the base of the obelisk is a crypt which it is intended later to develop, on the lines of the Scottish National War Memorial, as a repository of emblems symbolising the various units which went to the war from Western Australia. A Sufficient endowment ensures a revenue for the future maintenance of the Memorial. (Copied from The Mutual Provident Messenger, 1 April 1933).
