Description

Portrait of Lieutenant-General J Dudley Lavarack (1885-1957) CMG, DSO, 4 Division AIF. He was the general officer commanding the Australian 7th Division. Born in Brisbane, he was an officer of the Royal Australian Artillery, receiving his first commission in 1905. He served in France in 1915, Salonika 1915-16, with the Field Artillery and on the General staff of 1st and 4th Australian Divisions. He was Director of Military Art at the Royal Military College, Duntroon from 1920. From October 1946 until December 1957 he was the Governor of Queensland.
