Seninghem Church
Description
Two drawings on the one sheet of paper, depicting two churches, on the left, damaged Buire church (ART09704). On the right is a drawing of Seninghem church (See ART09705), undamaged, and labeled 'SENINGHEM CHURCH NEAR LUMBRES 1918'.
Architect Charles Terry Downie enlisted in Claremont, Tasmania on 27 April 1915 in the No. 1 Australian Casualty Clearing Station and was dispatched to Melbourne for embarkation, however too many recruits were sent and he was sent back to Tasmania. He enlisted again 29 June 1916 and served as a corporal in the 40th Battalion for the remainder of the war. He was wounded in action in July 1918 on the Somme, when he was shot in the leg, and was invalided to London. He returned to Australia in February 1919.
