Mounted troops move through a defile in Palestine
Description
Traffic passes down a road in a narrow valley between hills with truck convoy, camel caravan led by an Arab, mounted light horsemen, a group of Turkish prisoners of war, Arab civilians, lorries, and a Red Cross truck. There are Arabs and donkeys on the hill in the foreground, and two war graves on the hillside. The victims of the May raids in the area east of the Jordan were the local inhabitants who had enthusiastically welcomed the allied troops and who were not able to escape with them. This work may depict the fugitives escaping with their beasts of burden.
