A group of people crosses the Suez Canal on a pontoon. In the right foreground several men and a horse are possibly constructing a pontoon (floating) bridge based on barrels or metal drums. Behind the bank of the canal the tents of an army camp are visible. Defence of the Suez Canal was the task of the troops based here.
