Description
The British transport ship SS River Clyde, which took part in the Gallipoli Peninsula landings on 25 April 1915. The River Clyde was run aground on V Beach at Cape Helles, and joined to the shore with moored pontoons and barges to enable allied troops to land. The ship was later used as a temporary dressing station for the wounded. Note the bow, which shows evidence of shell damage. (Copied from a book of photographs taken by the Turks after the evacuation of Gallipoli, and published in German; brought from Asia Minor by an Australian prisoner of war.)
