Description

A group of unidentified Australian soldiers, some of them probably engineers or mechanics, repairing the pump used to draw water from a well in Shrapnel Valley. This is one of two tube wells sunk at the mouth of Shrapnel Valley by nightfall on 25 April 1915, the day of the landing, by two special parties of the 2nd Field Company Engineers, who were sent out to search for water in the gullies.
