Mann, A S (Major), DSO; Salmon, John R (Brigadier), CBE
Collection relating to 3401 Brigadier John R Salmon, RAA, D Troop Commander, 162 Battery, 16 Field Regiment, RNZA and 2285 Major Adrian 'Joe' Mann, DSO, Officer Commanding B Company, 1 Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment and B Comapny's involvement in Operation 'Fauna' in December 1952. The collection includes correspondence between the two men, 1992, and articles, 1991-1992, published in "Duty First", the journal of the Royal Australian Regiment Association. Major Mann comments in his letter that the company operated well despite the casualties. They both comment on manoeuvres and the actions of 1RAR and discuss incidents for which military awards were and were not awarded. The two journal articles, "Operation 'Fauna': company night raid-Korea" by Gus Breen and "Operation 'Fauna' - the FOO recalls" by John Salmon provide background information on this operation. The collection also contains a map relating to Operation 'Fauna' used in Breen's article.
