Matuschka, Roy (Sapper, b.1906 - d.1975)
Papers of NX83129 Sapper Roy Matuschka, 2/1 Australian Mechanical Equipment Company relating to his Second World War Service. The collection includes service papers and certificates, plus transcripts and originals of a notebook, diary and letter. Matuschka's Demobilization Procedure Book, Soldier's Record of Service Book and Certificate of Discharge, 28 March 1946, are included. There is a copy of his birth certificate and a welcome home certificate from the Returned Sailors', Soldiers' and Airmen's Imperial League of Australia (RSS & AILA). The diary, 31 March 1942-18 May 1944, and notebook, June 1944-28 March 1945 relate to Matuschka's wartime service primarily around Buna and Lae, New Guinea. He writes of frequent air raids by the Japanese and mentions work he did building roads. In the letter to his brother Ernie, December 1943, Matuschka expresses his disatisfaction with the work and asks his brother to assist him in getting out of the army.
