The ship Orcades a couple of hours before it sank. The Orcades was hit by two torpedoes a little over 200 miles from Capetown. The ship was carrying 1000 passengers, including troops and civilian passengers, amongst which were eight Australian sergeant pilots who were on their way to England to serve with the RAF.
