Ladies watch : Corporal T R Neeman, 6 Divisional Signals, AIF
Ladies' watch with stainless steel case and small inset dial to show seconds. The watch has a 25cm oblong link chain attached to the case, the the other end of the chain having a metal button for attachment to a tunic. The mechanism appears to be damaged, and the hands and glass face are missing. The numerals on the dial may have been treated with a luminous paint. The inset seconds dial, which is divided into six segments, takes the place of the numeral 6, and parially obscures the 7 and 5. Beneath the numeral 12 are the words 'CHRONOGRAPH CRANE'.
Ladies' watch recovered from a dead Japanese marine by VX4539 Corporal Thomas Richard (Tom) Neeman, MM, who served with 6 Divisional Signals. The watch was collected from a tent on the Wandumi - Skindewai track in an area known as 'The Slaughter House',between Salamaua and Wau during January 1943. The Japanese was found dead in his tent and the watch was in a box at the head of his sleeping place.
