The village blacksmith, Mena
Sketchbook containing 56 pages of drawings from his service during the First World War
- Scrapbook leaf with two pencil sketches recto and an ink sketch verso
Description
Depicts two men seated under a canopy-like tent structure, sections being made from bags torn in half. The man on the left of the image has a small anvil in front of him. To the right of the image is a standing donkey, facing away from the scene. A plume of smoke rises up through a hole in the blacksmith's tent. The artist's inscriptions indicate the tent erected behind the blacksmith is made of hessian, and that the ground surface in the foreground is of white stone.
