Description
Studio portrait of three soldiers. One is known to be 2474 Private (Pte) John Lawrence Fitzgerald, 5th Reinforcements, 21st Battalion, of Gippsland, Vic. Pte Fitzgerald enlisted on 15 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Osterley on 29 September 1915. On 19 July 1916, whilst serving with the 59th Battalion, he was killed in action at Fleurbaix, France. His brother, 3312 Lance Corporal Daniel Fitzgerald, 59th Battalion, was wounded at Polygon Wood, Belgium, and died on 5 October 1917.
