Description
Full length studio portrait of 2332 Private (Pte) Henry Harold Berry, 20th Battalion. Pte Berry, of Ariah Park, NSW, enlisted on 26 July 1915, and was posted to the 20th Battalion, 5th Reinforcements. He embarked from Sydney, NSW, for service overseas aboard HMAT Ballarat (A75) on 6 September 1915. Whilst in France, Pte Berry served as a signaller in A Company, 20th Battalion, and took part in a charge on the German line at Pozieres on the night of 26 July 1916. The Red Cross Wounded and Missing files indicate he was initially listed as missing after the charge, however, following an inquiry, it was determined he was killed in action on 26 July 1916, aged 23.
