Soldat, la patrie compte sur toi...resiste aux seductions de la rue ...[Soldier, the country relies on you...Resist seduction in the street]
Description
French First World War poster warning soldiers to resist the seduction of prostitutes in the street, as those men who succumbed to temptation might become infected with a venereal disease and die without honour. A woman and a soldier are depicted embracing on the left of the poster, while a man seated outside a hospital on the right appears to be ill and suffering. The head of a soldier surrounded by laurel is seen at upper centre and a skull and cross bones at lower centre. The poster presents the viewer with the choice between a glorious or ignominious death.
