Description

Lone Pine, looking south from the Turkish trenches on Johnston's Jolly (400 yards away). The old position before 6 August 1919 was at the hut (right) and the new position after 6 August 1919 was a little to the left of the monument in the far distance. Note the barbed wire fence in the foreground. The whole ridge is honey-combed with trenches, tunnels and craters. One of a series of photographs taken on the Gallipoli Peninsula under the direction of Captain C E W Bean of The Australian Historical Mission, during the months of February and March, 1919.
