Men of Britain. Will you stand this?...enlist now
Description
This British First World War poster was published by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee (poster No. 51) and aims to encourage British men to enlist. The image is an adapted photograph of No 2 Wykham Street, Scraborough taken by F. Foxton. A young girl carrying an infant is standing outside the rubble of the house. The text provides information on the family killed in this house and how many women and children had been killed by the German air raids aiming to provoke an emotive response that encouraged men to join the war effort.
