Description
Two children standing in a street in Afion Kara Hissar, where British, Russian and French officer prisoners were housed. The house with the lattice on the gable (centre left) was called 'Australia House' and here most of the Australians were quartered. The buildings, which are built of timber and mud, were formerly the homes of Armenians, who had been driven out or killed by the Turks in the general massacre of this ethnic minority. The ground floor was used to stable cattle.
