Description

A model of the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park, Sydney. Approaching the Memorial by the main north or south stairways, one enters the 'Hall of Memory', a domed hall 50 feet in diameter and 95 feet high. In the centre of this hall is the 'Well of Contemplation', looking into which with bowed head, over a balustrade in the appropriate form of a wreath, one sees below the 'Hall of Silence' the sculptured group symbolising the sacrifice of both the women and men of New South Wales, while above the dome glitters with 125,000 stars, one for each of the men of the Mother State who went overseas. (Copied from 'Art in Australia', October 1932).
