Description
The unveiling of William (Will) Longstaff’s painting, ‘Menin Gate at Midnight’ at the Aeolian Hall in 1929. Seen from left to right is The Minister for Local Government, Michael Bruxner, Colonel Donald Charles Cameron and Governor of New South Wales, Admiral Sir Dudley de Chair as they pose with the painting. A newspaper of the time noted that the painting would “exhibit Longstaff’s picture in all the State capitals and large country centres.” The painting would then move to the War Memorial when it was finally built.
