Description
The Barada Gorge. Damascus is about 4 miles further on in the valley. This was the scene where the 3rd and 5th Light Horse Brigades occupied the heights on the south side and their machine guns annihilated the head of a column of 20,000 Turks, who endeavoured to escape from Damascus. The balance of the column then turned about and returned to Damascus, where most of it was captured the following morning. This is one half of a stereo image. The full stereo image is held at A02882A.
