Deutsche Verwundeten Kunst [Art by Wounded German Soldiers]
Description
Germany First World War poster promoting a musical recital by wounded German soldiers given at Kaiser Wilhem Academy's festival hall in Berlin. While the poster's title refers to 'kunst', which while it directly translates to art, it German this refers to a more broad meaning encompassing other performing arts. The poster advertises within its show acts such as: an organ played with feet, a piano played with one hand, singing with damaged lungs, and a recital by people with speech impediments - all of which were disabled as a result of war wounds. The concert was promoted as a "triumph of medicine" and a "fanfare to that power in man which always achieves success wherever there is an iron will".
