Description
HMAS Encounter, smoke belching from her central funnel. Encounter was built at Devonport Dockyard United Kingdom for the Royal Navy and was commissioned on 21 November 1905 under Captain C. F. Thursby, RN. In 1912 she was transferred to the Royal Australian Navy and served the rest of her career in the region. In 1914 and 1916 she was based in the Pacific and on 24 April 1915 she captured the German merchant ship Elfriede. In 1915 she was based around the China station. In 1932 she was scuttled.
