A retouched portrait of Sergeant (Sgt) John James Dwyer VC, of the 4th Australian Machine Gun Company. He earned the Victoria Cross (VC) for 'most conspicuous bravery when in attack' in Zonnebeke, Belgium on 26 September 1917. Sgt Dwyer returned to Australia on 24 August 1918.
