Portrait of VX23567 Corporal (Cpl) Charles Ian MacGregor Herbert, 2/2 Pioneer Battalion (left); Mr Robert Gordon McIllree, father of Sgt McIllree; NX31368 Sergeant (Sgt) Robert Gregory McIllree, 8 Corps of Signals (right) at Circular Quay, Sydney. Cpl Herbert of Ballarat, Vic, enlisted on 6 June 1940 and died of wounds on 21 June 1941 in Syria. Sgt McIllree of Corryong, Vic, was later taken Prisoner of War and his brother NX8786 Private (Pte) Nicholas Gordon McIllree, 2/4 Battalion, also of Corryong, died of wounds on 30 May 1941 in Egypt.
