Description

Chrome-plated brass cigarette case with a decorative finish on the front and back. The case is hinged along the left side and opens by pushing a clasp on the right. The initials 'OCRP' are engraved on the front and there is a small brass rising sun badge adhered at the bottom. Engraved inside the left panel is 'NX29953. O.C.Pike. A.I.F.'.

History / Summary

Associated with the service of NX29953 Sergeant Owen Cleeve Pike, born 25 November 1910 in Malmsbury, England. Pike, a 29 year old book keeper, enlisted as a private with 2/4 Field Ambulance on 11 June 1940 in Griffith, NSW. He was transferred to 2/3 Casualty Clearing Station in August and served in the Middle East from December 1940 until February 1943. He was promoted to corporal in September 1941 and to sergeant in July 1943. After a few months in Australia Pike served in New Guinea and Borneo from August 1943 to October 1945. Pike then volunteered to join the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF) and served with 20 Australian Field Ambulance, initially in Morotai and then in Japan, until February 1949. Pike was discharged from 2/3 Casualty Clearing Station on 14 March 1949.
