Three officers watch the 1st Brigade carrying out field training exercises on the large plateau in front of the Pyramids; nearby was the camp at Mena, where the 1st Division was stationed from December 1914 to April 1915. Identified left to right: an unidentified British staff officer; Brigadier General Henry Normand MacLaurin, General Officer Commanding the 1st Brigade, who was killed by a Turkish sniper on 27 April 1915; Captain Dennis Malcolm King, the Staff Captain, 1st Brigade.
