Sweetheart brooch : Corporal S M Basset, 2/24 Battalion
Description
Small sweetheart brooch with enamelled diamond shaped colour patch for 2/24 (1941-1942 pattern) Battalion. The colour patch is horizontally divided white over red and surrounded by a grey metal border. The brooch has a pin fastening on the back and is stamped with the maker's details.
History / Summary
Associated with VX50120 Corporal Spencer Morris Basset of 2/24 Battalion, AIF. Basset was born in Donald, Victoria, in August 1918 and enlisted in the AIF as a driver on 10 March 1941. Basset served in the Middle East, New Guinea and Borneo with 2/24 Bn and later transferred to 9 Division Provost Company. He was Mentioned in Dispatches for exceptional service in the field in the South West Pacific area. Basset was discharged from service on 9 January 1946.
