Description
Studio portrait of three privates. One is known to be 3112 Private (Pte) Neil Mitchell, 8th Battalion, 10th Reinforcements, of Cardigan, Vic. Prior to his enlistment on 23 July 1915 in the AIF, he served with the 19th Australian Light Horse, Citizens Military Forces. Pte Mitchell embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Osterley on 29 September 1915. He was killed in action on 9 August 1918 at Harbonnieres, France. Pte Mitchell had two cousins who were also killed in action. One was 5501 Sapper Donald Mitchell Blair, 1st Tunnelling Company, who was killed in action on 20-21 April 1917 at Hill 60, Belgium. The other was Pte James Steel.
