Tennis racquet : Lieutenant N G L Williams, 6 Topographical Survey Company
Description
Lacquered wooden tennis racquet with brown leather grip on the handle. The racquet has maker's details transferred onto the shaft and on one side of the throat. The other side of the throat has a transfer with the Rising Sun badge and the words 'AUSTRALIAN ARMY AMENITIES SERVICE'. The racquet has been restrung post-war and the butt cap has the details of the shop which undertook the repairs, 'NISH & JOYCE, KINGSTON' with a partially obscured phone number.
History / Summary
Issued to and used by QX40044 Lieutenant Norman Leslie George Williams. Williams was born in Brisbane in January 1917 and enlisted in the army on 18 December 1940. He served in New Guinea with 2/6 Australian Topographical Survey Company and was discharged on 25 February 1946.
