Black and white photocopies of the diaries kept by NX12531 Lieutenant (Lt) Robert John Bruce (known as Bruce) Parkhill who served with the 17th Anti-Tank Battery, Lark Force, and was captured by the Japanese at Rabaul in 1942. The diaries span the period 11 November 1942 to 18 September 1945, covering Lt Parkhill's time as a prisoner of war at the Zentsuji prison camp located on the island of Shikoku, Japan. His diary entries, although not daily, are fairly regular and contain detailed descriptions of the conditions at Zentsuji, his liberation after the surrender of the Japanese and his return to Australia via Okinawa and Manila. Also includes includes a black and white photocopy of the front and back of a letter card written by Lt Parkhill on 20 November 1944 from Zentsuji, to his father Archdale Parkhill, in Sydney Australia.
