Studio portrait of 2740 Private (Pte) Barrow Helbert Ellis Lousada, 6th Reinforcements, 21st Battalion, of Korrumburra, Vic. Pte Lousada enlisted on 12 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Moldavia on 5 October 1915. He was killed in action on 26 August 1916 at Mouquet Farm, France. He was awarded the Military Medal (MM) posthumously on 27 October 1916 for bravery in a raid at Fromelles in 1916. His brother, 1724 Gunner (Gnr) Cecil St Leger Lousada, 24th Battalion, was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) on 20 October 1916 for stretcher-bearing and carrying water to the wounded at Pozieres in 1916. He was also awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) on 17 June 1918. Gnr Lousada was wounded at Brick Kiln, Corbie-sur-Somme, and died on 10 April 1918 at Querrieu, whilst serving with the 14th Field Artillery Brigade.
