Description
Studio portrait of 1524 Private (Pte) James William Hoban, 11th Reinforcements, 3rd Light Horse Regiment, of Richmond, Vic, aged 21 years. Pte Hoban enlisted on 17 June 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard SS Hawkes Bay on 26 October 1915. He was transferred to the 2nd Divisional Ammunition Column on 11 March 1916 as a gunner, and then on 23 April 1917 he transferred to the 5th Field Artillery Brigade. Pte Hoban was killed in action on 4 May 1917 in France.
