Economisons le pain en mangeant des pommes de terre [Save bread by eating potatoes]
Description
A bowl of steaming hot potatoes on a plate on a red and white check table cloth is presented as an alternative to bread during the First World War. This economic rationalisation was part of a series of posters made by French school children in 1918. the works are attention grabbing in their use of colour and simplicity of design. A few months of war related shortages worsened moral and volutary restrictions like substituting bread for potatoes supplemented an already extensive rationing program.
